the waiting game

I've always considered myself to be pretty patient but this summer is killing me! I feel like I can't do anything until we get some serious answers.

Alex is trying to follow in his aunt's and uncle's footsteps and go to law school at Georgia State (his dad even attended the university but not for law). Before we left Idaho we were informed that he was on the waiting list-that was months ago! He emailed the school to see if there was any way to find out his placement on the waiting list and last weekend he received an email saying there were only 60 people on the waiting list and that he should be getting an answer within a week or two (ok that's really just my assumption but c'mon it has to be soon because school is going to start before we know it).

The other thing I've been dying to find out is the gender of Baby Peach! My goal was to try to get a job during the summer months so we can store away extra money before the baby comes. But I've had no luck so all I do is sit around the condo, tired, nauseous, cleaning, applying and wanting to paint the nursery and start planning for the little one. It's dreadful and sometimes I feel that I'm not contributing to anyone or anything (being pregnant makes me super dramatic).

For my lack of photos I decided to throw in a sonogram of me that my mom found the other day rummaging through her old files. This was only 18 days before I was born! (Thankfully technology has advanced-how were they even sure I was a girl...or human??)
It's like we're in line for The Superman at Six Flags: long, hot and stinky. I'm hoping by next month we can get out of the line and on the roller coaster of fun, studying, hard work, sleepless nights, planning...wait a second-why do I want to get on it again? Oh yes, because being stagnant actually feels like I'm moving backwards.

So let's get some answers and do this!

Oh Baby!

It's true!

After four years of friendship, two years of marriage, two bachelors degrees, and a move back South (just to name a few milestones) our family is growing! Alex and I are nervous and excited to be having a precious baby enter our world around Christmas Eve! It's convenient timing for the family to all be together!

This is my Father's Day Card to Alex and the collage I made to announce our news on Facebook.
So here's a timeline of events:

In December I decided not to refill my birth control and since then we have not been trying to get pregnant. So when we arrived in Georgia and I had an irregular schedule (if you know what I mean) Alex started to get uneasy and wanted me to take a pregnancy test.
I was in denial about the whole thing. My mother had terrible morning sickness up until the day I was born and I thought to myself: If I know I'm pregnant I'll get sick, so I'm not! Silly me. I took two tests on May 5th and they were both positive. We didn't know how to react! We were happy and nervous and every other emotion but I was still in denial because I didn't want to get sick.
To make sure the tests were correct I set up an appointment with a regular doctor who confirmed the pregnancy and gave me a small, plastic, blue pacifier and I got so excited and for a second thought she was telling me we were having a boy. But quickly realized that would've been impossible but we are hoping for a healthy baby boy.

I'm hoping this is a sign of what's to come!

On the 30th I had my first visit with the "baby doctor" who gave me an ultrasound right away! I was so shocked and all I could say was "this is so weird!" I mean, there is a person growing in my belly! That's insane!

our very first sonogram

So June 1st came around and I couldn't help it-I had to tell my family. So we called our parents and my siblings and told them the news! Both our parents will be first time grandparents and they were thrilled! My mom started the nickname Baby Peach, which is what we call it for now, but my brother refuses to call the baby by that name. You see, we're very rooted Austinites-not just Texans, specifically Austin, Texans-so with such a Georgian nickname, brother calls the baby "The Lonestar Kid".

12.5 weeks and goodbye first trimester!

June 15th we decided, after one more visit to the "baby doctor", to tell our extended family and close friends about our little addition and then to the world on Father's Day! It has been a crazy first trimester and I have been nauseous, tired and extremely emotional-hopefully that'll all simmer down but maybe I'm just in denial again...we'll see!

Hello Blogging World!

Well, much to Alex's dismay, I have decided to start a blog to keep our friends and family that are no longer nearby in touch with the small details of our lives.

Let's see, where to begin...well I guess I'll backtrack a little bit to April.
Alex and I where both able to graduate from BYU Idaho: Alex is now a Political Scientist and I am an Art Historian. Ok, well not really but that's what our diplomas say! Both of our lovely families were able to come up for graduation (except for my brother Steve and Alex's brother Drew).

WE DID IT!

We then packed up our very first apartment, with the help of some amazing friends, and started our trek south. Due to the weather in Wyoming we took a little longer to get "home" and missed seeing our friends the Dickson's in Omaha. Eventually we got to Georgia (at 1 in the morning) and were able to get settled.

UHAULIN' across the USA
Since we have been here in Georgia we've moved into a condo that Alex's Grandpa owns. It was our turn I suppose because almost everyone in the family has lived here (parents, aunts, uncles, etc.). We really love it and finally got a kitchen table! We've also been able to celebrate our 2nd anniversary, Alex's 25th, Mother's Day, Drew's high school graduation and Drew's birthday. We even got tickets to the Hawks playoff game against the Pacers-both teams season is finally over but at least it was fun.

Alex has been working for his Aunt's Title Company and awaiting an answer from Georgia State Law School to see if he's been accepted yet. (Since he's on the waiting list they could potentially not give us a "yes" or "no" until the first day of classes-frustrating.) I've been looking for a job and trying to make the condo ours.

We really miss our college buddies and playing volleyball all the time. But we have some friends and family planning on visiting already so we are pumped! For me I think it's taking a bit more of adjusting to get used to calling Georgia home. I really was feeling sad for myself at first missing all of my friends but with the best family, new and fast technology and a great ward I'm doing good. Anyway, that was a lot and I'm still not quite sure how to arrange photos or fonts or even think of a clever blog name but I'm sure I'll figure it out, until next time friends!

XOXO
